Postpartum Hair Loss: 10 Tips on How to Reverse It
Pregnancy can come with many ups and downs. Lefts face it; it DOES come with ups and downs. One of the ups is crazy hair growth. I’m not kidding when I say that my hair grew at twice the speed of light, which for me, was like waking up on Christmas morning. FULL OF THRILL! I’ve never had good hair. It breaks easy, it’s frail, and it’s thick at the roots and thin at the ends. Really inconvenient when you’re a woman, am I right?
I don’t know about you, but I LOVED being on the other side of pregnancy. My swelling was going down slowly but surely and I was beginning to look less like an aquatic feature at the Zoo, and more like myself again! Honestly, postpartum wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was really intimidated by that word, postpartum, and really feared for what it may have in store for me.
Lucky for me, none of my fears came to life. In fact, something WORSE did. My hair literally would come out in gobs in the shower, it would break off if you looked at it wrong, and if I was really lucky, I’d lose a strand or ten when the wind blew.
So I began trying ANYTHING that I thought would work, and I was sure to keep track of my successes for you and your postpartum journey. I recommend to start them IMMEDIATELY after giving birth, so you can get a head start, unlike I did. Or if you’re really ahead of the game, start while you’re still pregnant (in moderation)!
Do NOT wash your hair everyday. Learn to love dry shampoo, OR ELSE.
Essential Oils are KEY. Rosemary is a wonderful scalp stimulant, and Lavender is wonderful as well. Remember that a $30+ essential oil can last you a lifetime because a little goes a long way.
Oil masks are your friend. Blend up your own with a bit of coconut oil, castor oil, and sweet almond oil for extra nourishment. Or, this one is AMAZING too. Remember to heat it up and add a couple drops of Lavender and Rosemary for maximum scalp stimulation.
Continue your prenatal. I take mine at night because it gives me a tender tummy, but it’s a super easy fix for weak hair and nails.
Did I mention not washing your hair daily? REMEMBER THAT👏🏼
MONAT products are life. No, I’m not a distributor, but this stuff works amazing and I wish I would have invested in it much sooner!
Keep hot tools far away from your hair until it’s gotten a bit stronger and you’re seeing a difference. I for one am a flat iron and blow dry FREAK, but since using MONAT I have swapped the blow dryer for the Air Dry Cream.
Although the “Mom bun” is a signature hairstyle among a lot of us, opt for French braids instead. Make them tight for maximum scalp stimulation.
LOSE THE BRUSH. So so so much of my hair loss comes with brushing my hair. It’s so hard on your hair, and right now we need to be as gentle as possible. Instead, use a thick toothed comb and slow strokes.
Don’t stress about it. Added stress does not help with all of the hormonal changes your body is already going through, and we want you to be the best Momma you can be!
Look good, feel good, do good!
(had to share my progress after only 3 washes with MONAT’s Let it Grow System)
